Housing Services wraps up monthly classes

The West Side Neighborhood Housing Services will hold its last homeownership class of the year from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 8.
The homeownership classes are always taught from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on a Saturday and are offered on a monthly basis. In addition to offering a class, there is an online option available for those who wish to complete the class at home.  More information is available from the organization’s website at http://www.wsnhs.org/homebuyer-education#online.
Housing Services is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the renewal of Buffalo's neighborhoods by providing secure and affordable housing opportunities.
The organization recommends working with a Housing Services counselor to fix credit issues before enrolling in the class. Lauren Jednak, homeownership counselor, and her team help fix up ones credit in order to obtain a mortgage.
After completing the homebuyer education class, the home-buying process is ready to begin.
Housing Services also recommends different grant programs, such as the First Time Home Club run through the Federal Home Loan Bank of N.Y., to get individuals started with a savings plan.
Jednak said they also help people get into their homes and fix up homes that need fixing.
“In addition to the homeownership program, we have a rehabilitation program, and a foreclosure prevention program,” Jednak said. “God forbid a home owner faces the threat of foreclosure, we can help you mediate that process as well.By Crissie Russo and Caitlin Waters
