The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market
is back in full swing as the summer starts to approach.
Open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., every Saturday until the end of November, the market is home to over 38 unique vendors.
It is a producer-only market,
meaning that all of the vendors grow or produce what they sell themselves, and
that there is no re-selling of any products allowed, said Ashley Smith,
community engagement manger at the Elmwood Village Association. This allows for the customers to deal
directly with the source of their food, along with supporting the local
economy, she said.
The
market is also a part of the Double Up Food Bucks program that allows people
using food stamps to bring their Snap Benefits Card to the market, and by
buying eligible food, the buyer can earn up to an extra $20 that is matched on
their purchases to spend on locally grown produce, according to the program’s
website.
The vendors and foods aren’t the only things that are local. Throughout each day that the market is open, there will be live entertainment from local artists and bands.

“It is much more than just a food
market,” Smith said. “It really is a day
for the community.” By Matt Schaefer
