Grant
Street will host its second annual “Peace, Love, & Grant Street” holiday
event on Dec. 6 to get shoppers in the spirit of buying local goods.
Businesses
will extend their hours from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to accommodate the event, which
will be held on Dec. 6 throughout businesses on Grant Street between Delavan
Avenue and Ferry Street.
Sean Mulligan, legislative aide to Councilmember David Rivera and one of the primary event
coordinators, said this event would be a great opportunity for the public to see
what Grant Street businesses have to offer.
Mulligan
said shoppers will receive a passport that will be stamped at each store they
visit. Each stamp is worth a raffle ticket, which participants can use to enter
a prize drawing. Prizes will be donated by the businesses.
One
of the organizations participating in the event is the Community Academic
Center. Maureen McCarthy, director of the center, said that she is looking
forward to participating in the event.
“We’ll
be showcasing our Global Voices art installation for visitors to enjoy during
the event,” said McCarthy. “It’ll be a great chance for visitors to see what
the center has to offer.”
Mulligan said that plans are in the works for
the Grant Street Neighborhood Center to host a Christmas party featuring a
youth choir from the Westminster Church and Santa Claus.
A
trolley will run from Buffalo State College to Ferry Street for shoppers, and a
business mixer will follow the event from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Sweet_ness 7 Cafe, 220 Grant St. By Shari Ingles and Maureen Vitali
